We seek an experienced researcher with expertise in radioisotopic geochronology and thermochronology and regional geological analysis to lead large-scale research projects in orogenic and detrital studies.  Applicants should have extensive experience in at least two of the following dating techniques: U/Pb, (U-Th)/He, and fission-track dating, and demonstrated ability to lead large field and analytical campaigns in geological analysis, and successfully obtain external research funding.  Projects will be in collaboration with George Gehrels and Peter Reiners and other scientists in the Arizona Geochronology Center.  A PhD is required.

DETAILS:  Conduct field surveys observing landslides in southwestern Washington timberlands and streams for a State-sponsored scientific study.  Work in the field semi-independently. Physically demanding; qualified applicants must demonstrate outdoor experience, ability to navigate and work safely in rugged terrain.  Experience with timber cruising, wildlife surveys, or other on-the-ground natural resources management tasks, safety training, and first aid training skills are a plus. 
Start date anticipated June 30; survey work expected to extend through September, 10 to 12 weeks.  Work weeks expected to be Monday-Thursday, 10 hours per day.  Travel, meals, lodging expenses will be covered, and an allowance for personal safety gear will be provided.  Temporary full-time salary positions at approximately $720 to $920 per week, depending on experience and qualifications.  Four positions open until filled.

The position involves two related means of coordinating teacher
participation in the project: (1) organizing logistics of workshops and
ongoing teacher support, working collaboratively in each of the five
regions with secondary school teachers in advisory panels and workshops;
(2) management of online resources and interactive tools associated with
the project website (which will be created by an outside vendor). The
online resources will include the Teacher-Friendly Guides themselves,
together with an associated virtual fieldwork database and a variety of
other tools for teacher interaction and learning.

This position provides field hydrogeology expertise and other professional support to the Fort Lewis Environmental Restoration Program, which is the lead agency for cleanup actions under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) at Fort Lewis and other Department of Defense installations.  The primary workload at this time includes groundwater monitoring, operation and maintenance of groundwater pump-and-treat remediation systems, and associated reporting for two National Priority List sites.  This position also conducts site investigations, completes cleanup actions, and oversees project management assignments at a variety of other cleanup sites.
