2018 Geohazards Symposium

Living with Earth Hazards
16-18 February 2018

Please join us for the 2018 symposium Living with Earth Hazards in Western Washington, February 16th – 18th at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall at Seattle Center.  Come learn about the geologic hazards of your neighborhood and how to protect your family and property.  Hear from local geologic experts, and visit interactive exhibits by the Washington Geological Survey and others.   • Friday February 16th – Technical Day

    Technical Day Topics:  Landslide mapping and dating – Volcano, lahar, and ashfall hazards – Tsunami modeling – Earthquakes and active faults – GPS, PANGA, and plate motions – ShakeAlert – Flooding and erosion – Sea-level rise and coastal flooding – Infrastructure protection
  • Saturday February 17th – Public Day, FREE and open to the public!  Interactive exhibits and engaging presentations.

    Public Day Topics:  Geology of western Washington – Overview of earth hazards – Landslides – Volcanic hazards – Tsunamis – Earthquakes – Flooding – Preparedness and risk reduction
  • Sunday February 18th – Field Trip to Whidbey Island
