Department of Ecology Staff Hydrogeologist (Hydrogeologist 3) (In-Training)
The Environmental Assessment Program (EAP) within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a Staff Hydrogeologist (Hydrogeologist 3) (In-Training) position. This position is located in our Central Region Office (CRO) in Union Gap, WA. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.
In this role, you will serve as the primary lead for the Lower Yakima Valley Groundwater Management Area Land Use and Groundwater Study efforts, designing the land use study, characterizing groundwater flow, overseeing installation of monitoring wells, conducting field sampling, analyzing the resulting data, determining effective land use management practices, report writing, and Environmental Information Management System (EIM) data management. You will provide support for analyzing large datasets associated with soil and groundwater sampling. In addition, you will apply state-of-the-art theories and practices in designing and directing hydrological and water quality field investigations in Central Washington, review Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) and provide written comments for Ecology projects, local governments, and volunteer monitoring programs.
Note: This position offers a career path and on-the-job training. This position allows you to progress through the Hydrogeologist field and achieve the goal class of a Hydrogeologist 3. Candidates will be considered at the Hydrogeologist 2 and the Hydrogeologist 3 levels, depending on their qualifications. For salary levels for each, please see the qualifications section.

During Healthy Washington Roadmap to Recovery, employees are working a combination of in-office and/or telework based on position and business need. This position will be required to spend about 1-3 days per week in the office interacting with technical and field staff, and other programs managers/staff.
